Postdoc with Irene ChenA postdoctoral position is available to work with Irene Chen. We are a multidisciplinary lab that studies the molecular evolution of viruses and the origin of life. Our lab builds and analyzes libraries of molecules to understand the detailed structure-activity relationship of ribozymes and bacteriophages. We explore how life-like behaviors emerge from simple, prebiotically relevant systems. We also take a theoretical approach to understanding the effects of physical constraints on the evolution of early replicators. We are looking for scientists with a mechanistic interest in the evolution of simple systems and a Ph.D. in biophysics, chemistry, or a related field. Candidates should have familiarity with one or more of the following areas: genetic engineering, membrane chemistry, RNA chemistry, bacteriophage genetics, programming in MATLAB or similar language. If you are interested, send a cover letter and CV, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to Irene Chen at the FAS Center for Systems Biology, Harvard University, Bauer Laboratory, 7 Divinity Avenue, Cambridge MA 02138.
