Postdoc for physicist with Sharad Ramanathan, L. Mahadevan and Federico Capasso

A postdoctoral position is available immediately for an experimental or theoretical physicist to work with Sharad Ramanathan, L. Mahadevan and Federico Capasso on problems in biology. The position will initially be for two years, and will allow for independent research.

The areas you will help us explore could be any one of the following: quantitative study of worm motion and burrowing behavior; mechano-sensory perception and navigation of worms; and cell movement during early worm development. Experiments will involve fluorescence and confocal microscopy, development and fabrication of micro-devices for measurement and perturbation of worms, use of mutants, RNAi libraries for knock-down of genes, and laser ablation of neurons. Theoretical analysis will involve modeling worm movement or cell movement, and understanding how different signals are integrated to make such movement possible.

Candidates should have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD in physics or a related field. Prior experience with microscopy, micro-fabrication and/or C. elegans biology will be helpful. To apply, send a letter of intent and CV and arrange to have three letters of reference sent to Sharad Ramanathan.

Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
