Computational Biology Group

The Computational Biology Group is located in the basement of the Bauer Laboratory, room B04. Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art computational biology support for the Life Sciences Division of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

We do this by one-on-one consultation and "project embedding". Being embedded in projects allows our group members to help with complex analysis problems and become more deeply involved in the science. In all of our interactions, our role is to facilitate research.

In addition to consulting and collaborating with researchers, we maintain key core facilities, including microarray analysis facilities, large-scale genomic databases, and essential algorithms.

We also provide user support to research groups who have accounts on our Linux cluster, including help with submitting jobs and advice on how to run analyses so as to obtain accurate results quickly.

Our members have skills and expertise in many areas. Some of our main activities are:

Designing computational strategies to complement experiments or to address specific biological questions
One-on-one consultation to aid in analysis and interpretation of computational results, such as BLAST similarity search outputs or other sequence alignments
Developing, or assisting in the development of, scripts to carry out high-throughput analysis of data
One-on-one consultation to help facilitate microarray data storage and analysis.

Group members will also collaborate with researchers on projects that may result in tools or databases that would have a wide range of application for researchers in the Life Sciences Division.
